In 2020 right before i got cancer and before the pandemic, i purchased all the materials to build and try 3 different styles of horizontal bee hive; langstroth long, layens, lazutin hives but i never got them built because I had to focus on fighting cancer instead. Anyways, all that material was taking up space in my building but during the pandemic when lumber prices got crazy i was like .... told everyone i would be a bajillionaire someday ... and for a while i was. But the bees are more important to me and i really need to get all that lumber out of my building so here we are....my take on a langstroth long bee hive I will bee adding to the apiary soon for the honeybees to try out. This is built different than about any i have seen because ... well, I don't follow what everybody else does and I kind of based the size on "what I typically use each year in northern kentucky on my langstroth hives". I went with true 1" rough cut unfinished lumber for extra insulation and did a few other things differently like the gable roof is taller with more overhang and the landing board is 3/4 length instead of 3 smaller ones. I also did the roof top sort of like my warre hives which allows ventilation while keeping blowing rain out. I pretty much had to make the plans up as i went because non standard lumber sizes and non-standard hive size but i knew what i wanted and what i needed to get to there from years of woodworking. Originally i was going to do a copper roof which would be cool for youtube likes but not really functional for the bees and may have caused the box to be too hot so i just did everything painted, simple and easy peasy just like warre hives.....aka just like ME!
