Australia is well-positioned to capitalise on opportunities within the hydrogen industry. Key international markets such as China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Singapore have increasing demand to import hydrogen, and this represents a significant opportunity for Australian exporters.
With an already established reputation in this sector and proximity to Asia, there is growing interest in the production and use of hydrogen as an energy carrier. It is anticipated the demand for Australian hydrogen is estimated to be over 3 million tons each year by 2040.

Key players in the Republic of Korea, for example, have identified Australia as pivotal to achieving their clean energy ambitions; driving strategic intent to redefine Australia-Korea bilateral relations from resources to renewable energy via green hydrogen. With existing free trade agreements with the other countries mentioned above, this will add to the competitive advantage to engage Australian operators over other potential hydrogen suppliers.
This alone has great potential to generate thousands of jobs across R&D, infrastructure and many opportunities in the rapidly growing industry.
