The strata is very clear to see in the coastal cliffs, periods of sand influx denoted by the more resistant sand-rich beds, the softer, more friable shale beds being more weathered.
The sea has used the weaker beds to erode into the land, along the surfaces of the more resistant, ammonite-rich beds, forming a great example of a wave-cut platform.
