Following the success of the Tourism Industry Activation and Reef Protection Initiative (TIARPI) in 2020-2021, the Reef Authority is now implementing the Tourism Reef Protection Initiative (TRPI) with 26 tourism operators along the length of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
The Tourism Reef Protection Initiative provides funding for the marine tourism industry to deliver Reef protection and conservation services at high-value tourism reef sites across the Great Barrier Reef.
To aid in the delivery of these Reef protection and conservation services, the Eye on the Reef team have conducted site visits - from Lady Elliot Island in the south, to Ocean Safari, Cape Tribulation, in the north. These site visits are to certify, and refresh, the industry in Eye on the Reef survey methods, as well as provide training in control of coral predators - such as drupella snails and crown of thorn starfish - removal and control.
This Initiative is implemented by the Reef Authority as part of the Australian Government’s Reef Protection package.
Stay tuned as we bring you more from this Initiative.
