A botched £43,000 granny flat build allegedly left a pensioner with no savings and even caused a BRAIN ANEURYSM after the company which built the ‘unlivable’ home went into liquidation.
Scientific illustrator Samantha Elmhurst, 52, enlisted now-closed company Hudson Garden Rooms to build the annex in her garden in Norwich for mum Carolyn Lerski, 76, to live in.
Samantha claims she paid 90 per cent of the fee up front in April 2016 but work on the property stopped after three months, leaving the ‘unlivable’ half-built flat with no ventilation system or foul water drainage, uninsulated floors, doors and windows that don’t meet fire safety regulations and a sewage and water pipes which are not buried.
But the mum alleges when she tried to take Hudson Garden Rooms to small claims court in 2017, spending thousands on legal fees, the company folded with £400,000 worth of debt, meaning the family could no longer pursue the case and have received no compensation.
