The other matter before the ICJ is the case surrounding the Sapodilla Cayes which Honduras has claimed as theirs. As a result, Belize took Honduras to the court with an aim to settle ownership. Ambassador Shoman indicated that when it comes to the Sapodilla Cayes, both Guatemala and Honduras have laid a claim on that territory. Guatemala had attempted to join the court matter as an interested party but that request was rejected by Honduras.
The Belize Guatemala territorial case was lodged at the ICJ on June 7, 2019.
