The shops and stalls of Mercado Modelo catered mainly to tourists, but this old market was the real deal. We went with the kiddo and a Brazilian friend of his, and they showed us places no tourists go.
It was very hard to film here without being rude, and I was able to get only a couple of shots. As you see, they had all kinds of fruits and vegetables. We also saw raw meat hanging up all over, of course, and there were quail and chickens in cages -- not to mention chickens wrapped in newspaper being carried home by customers -- and, for some reason none of us could figure out, a peacock. They had goats for sale, too.
This video isn't even half as colorful as some of the things we saw there, but it was still worthwhile, and a far cry from the Midwest of the Boho Barnyard!
