How To Clean K Rend Properly by softwashing.
What is K-Rend?
K-rend is a brand of through-coloured, cement-based render used for exterior wall finishing. It is a popular choice for both new builds and renovation projects in the UK and Ireland.
K-rend is a type of monocouche render, meaning that it is applied in a single layer and does not require a basecoat or finishing coat. The render comes in a range of colours and textures, and it is designed to be weather-resistant, durable, and low-maintenance. K-rend is often used as an alternative to traditional sand and cement render because it can be applied faster and is less prone to cracking.
How to clean K-Rend
Soft washing is a cleaning method that uses low-pressure water and specially formulated biodegradable cleaning solution to treat the living biofilm that stains and discolours K-Rend.
Low pressure water is used to remove dirt, grime, and other contaminants from the surface without causing damage.
Here are the steps to softwash K-rend:
Assess the surface: Before soft washing K-rend, check the condition of the surface to determine the level of cleaning required. Inspect for any damage, cracks or loose areas.
Preparation: Remove any loose debris or vegetation from the surface that could interfere with the cleaning process.
Dilute cleaning solution: Prepare a soft washing cleaning solution by diluting a biodegradable, environmentally friendly detergent or bleach, in the ratio recommended by the manufacturer.
Application: Apply the cleaning solution to the K-rend surface using a soft washing pump or a garden sprayer. Let the solution dwell for a few minutes.
Rinse: Rinse the surface with water using low-pressure water. Be sure to rinse from the top to bottom of the wall to prevent streaking and staining.
Repeat if necessary: If the surface is not clean after the first application, repeat the process until the desired level of cleanliness is achieved.
It is recommended to use protective clothing, gloves and eye protection, and to avoid getting the cleaning solution on surrounding plants or surfaces as it may cause damage.
One of the main advantages of a soft wash or as it's known softwashing is that it is applied at low pressure, which ensures that even delicate surfaces aren't damaged. This makes it the perfect cleaning method for those who want to maintain the look of their property without causing any harm to surface.
It's different to Pressure Washing or Jetwashing in that it utilises low pressure to apply chemicals and rinse with hot water.
Softwashing kills the living spores of algae, mould, bacteria and organic biofilm that cold water pressure washing cannot remove.
Painting over the living biofilm of algae and mould will result in it striking through the paint after a short period of time.
