Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said on Tuesday there is a possibility that discussions could be held on lifting the arms embargo imposed on Libya.
Gentiloni was speaking in Tripoli during the first visit by a European official to the country since the head of a UN-backed unity government took up residence in the capital.
He said the arms embargo could be lifted to help Libyan authorities fight the Islamic State group, adding it is up to the Libyan people and the Government of National Accord to be the "owner of this process".
The United Nations Security Council unanimously voted to impose an arms embargo on Libya in 2011.
