It was quite a journey, the project was funded October 2021 and the communication has been far from great, but I finally received my 4K Dash Cam. The rear units are still in production so this is my first initial review of the front (double) camera and the app. I didn’t do any color grading, lens corrections or other cleanup, to give you an honest view off what you can expect from this cam.
I’m quite pleased with the design and the looks of the camera unit. First it was sold, or at least some off us interpreted it like that, like you could take this cam with you and put it in a rental and connect it with the USB-C. But this production model makes it clear you really need to hard wire it. Other than this, slight, disappointment the unit works quite well. I’ve tested it for a couple of days now, without any issues. The 4GB wasn’t large enough for my taste, so I installed a 128GB Pro SD card.
Even though I’m happy with the unit, it’s not all unicorns and rainbows. The app still feels like a beta. The initial camera wizard wasn’t working on my phone, buttons were missing or not working, but this was fixed in the last update. There is an update almost every week, so let’s hope it will get better soon. The cloud button on the cam doesn’t work on my version. Looks like you need a cellular version for this. I hope they well fix this with an update too, because it’s not safe (and also not allowed in the Netherlands) to hold your phone and look for a clip you want to save.
Last of all. Because I’m a photographer and videographer, I would really like to be able to use this camera’s footage for a B-roll or something. I know the main purpose of this camera is capturing accidents etc, but still… But the colors on this cam are so overly saturated they need a lot of post editing. I really hope this can and will be fixed in a future update.
