(31 May 2017) President Donald Trump has spoken with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani about the massive truck bomb that killed nearly 100 people in Kabul.
Spokesman Sean Spicer says the call occurred Wednesday afternoon. He says the U.S. "strongly condemns" the attack and is aware that multiple Americans were wounded.
A suicide attacker drive into Kabul's heavily guarded diplomatic quarter during Wednesday's morning rush hour. It was one of the worst attacks since the drawdown of foreign forces from Afghanistan in 2014.
During Wednesday's White House briefing, Spicer also claimed that "a small group of people know exactly" what Trump meant when he tweeted gibberish early Wednesday morning.
Trump tweeted shortly before 1 a.m. that "Despite the constant negative press covfefe." The tweet ended there.
The president seemed to make a joke about the incident several hours later, tweeting: "Who can figure out the true meaning of "covfefe" ??? Enjoy!"
