June is Pride Month, dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. It started in New York City in 1969 after police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar that is now a national landmark. It led to three days of riots and became a catalyst for the Gay Rights Movement.
The annual Pride Parade commemorates the Stonewall Riots. This year, there are in-person and with virtual celebrations in cities around the world. Andre Thomas, the co-chair of New York City Pride, joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss how Pride Month is being celebrated in the city and Sunday's Pride march.
