Dr. Takeia Locke, a pediatric optometrist at Family Eye Care Center of Atlanta describes the steps parents can take to help their myopic child overcome the effects of genetics and the increase in near work associated with today’s lifestyles. She addresses the importance of getting children outdoors to delay the onset of myopia¹ and the need to take frequent breaks during their near work. Her 20/20/20 rule – every 20 minutes take 20 seconds to look 20 feet away – gives kids a simple rule to help prevent or slow the onset of myopia. For parents of children aged 8-12 with a myopia diagnosis, she discusses one of the most important advances in myopia management, FDA-approved* MiSight® 1 day contact lenses, and what she loves about them.
