When’s the last time your company reviewed its onboarding program? Weeks, months, maybe years?
Onboarding doesn’t have to be on-boring. Zappos has long subscribed to the idea of spicing up its approach to new hire training that goes beyond paperwork and PowerPoint slides. We believe in creating an immersive onboarding experience that benefits our new employees and, in turn, our company.
In this episode of Zappos Stories, Senior Corporate Trainer Stephanie Hudec talks to us about Zappos’ four-week new hire training and onboarding program. Employees learn about our history and experience our company culture. And in the spirit of Core Value #1 (Deliver WOW Through Service), every employee, regardless of title, is required to shadow our Customer Loyalty Team (CLT) and answer phone calls.
According to Hudec, these four weeks are to inspire, excite and welcome new employees into the Zappos family. “There is research that effective onboarding retains employees. If you have a good experience, you’re more likely to stay,” she says. “And you don’t feel like you’re thrown into your role without knowing the company.”
