The picturesque Romsdalen Valley is located in the western part of Norway. The length of the valley is 60 kilometers. The river Rauma flows along its bottom, which flows out of Lake Lesjaskogsvatnet.
It is from the snow-covered shores of Lake Lesjaskogsvatnet that our spring trip down to the Romsdalen Valley begins. The day is clear and sunny, but in early April the sun is still quite low. It is on such days that you can admire the bizarre play of shadows from trees on the islands of Lake Lesjaskogsvatnet frozen in ice.
We drive along the E136 road and consider it one of the most scenic roads in Norway. After all, it is located between the two national parks Reinheimen and Dovrefjell-Sundalsfjella.
We drive past the ski resort in Bjorli. Now there is a revival and a lot of people come to ride for the Easter holidays. It is a Norwegian tradition to close the ski season at Easter.
The Raumabanen railway line runs along the Romsdalen Valley, its length is 115 kilometers and it goes from the city of Dombås to Åndalsnes. On our way, there are railway stone bridges Stuguflåtbrua and Kyllingbruen.
Gradually we go down, the valley narrows, and the mountains become sheer and impregnable. Contrasting shadows appear. In the summer, waterfalls roar from the slopes of the mountains. But after the winter, all the waterfalls turned into frozen icefalls. Even powerful and full-flowing Vermafossen sleeps under the thickness of the ice and waits for the arrival of heat in the valley.
At the next turn of the road, we are met by the mighty Troll Wall (Trollveggen), which is part of the Troltindden mountain range. The height difference between the wall from the bottom of the valley to the top is 1700 meters, and the height of the vertical section is about 1000 meters, which makes it the largest in Europe.
We believe that a perfectly planned day should always end with a beautiful sunset. It was them that we admired over the proud Åndalsnes, where the Rauma River flows into the Romsdalfjord. The sunset of the first April sun turned the peaks of the Romsdalen Valley pink and this is an amazing sight that we want to see for everyone.
