Before anything else, I warn the Gabriel and Hackett fanboys that if you try to troll, you will be blocked. Go watch Shepperton 73, don't waste your time here.
Here's a project I've been working on. I gathered every song that Phil performed from the Peter Gabriel era of the band (minus Slippermen, but Phil never sang that song and it was part of the Cage medley that always had Phil era songs, so I couldn't include it) and put them together as one long two-hour show. I decided to order the tracks in the order of the albums, so it goes from the oldest album to the newest, from the first track to the last. Maybe it could have been a good idea to do it chronologically and put the songs in the order they were performed, but oh well, it's already done!
I tried to use as many different tours as I could for variety, otherwise you could just listen to Seconds Out and a couple of bootlegs. I think I succeeded in attaining variety, as the only tours I didn't use any material from were the Mama and Invisible Touch tours. Some of my choices might be controversial for the purists and Hackett fanboys like Jim Smith and Billy Barew, like using the 1981 Nassau Coliseum and 1992 Knebworth performances for Firth of Fifth and the 1982 Saratoga Springs performance of Supper's Ready instead of one of the many available from the Steve Hackett era, but I don't care, I welcome the rarer 80's performances of the "old shit".
Some songs are composed of multiple sources, I did this mostly because I could make use of video footage to make this video more interesting and because I prefer how Daryl played the Firth of Fifth solo during the 1992 tour than the 1981 one.
My idea was to use only pre-FM sources and tried to avoid using official releases, but I ended up using two tracks from Three Sides Live because I couldn't find bootleg alternatives that I liked enough, a couple FM broadcasts (lucky us that the one and only time Genesis performed Moonlit Knight with Phil on vocals was broadcast and recorded!), a direct soundboard because that performance is quite unique and special and two audience recordings because there are no better quality recordings of those two songs available (despite Lilywhite Lillith being professionally recorded, it has never been released).
I hope you enjoy this. Leave your comments below! If people are interested, I can make this CDDA friendly and available for download.
