With the retirement of the R32s in January 2022 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=gla7qqGwG8w), the Staten Island Railway's R44s, built in the early 1970s, are now the oldest piece of equipment in operation on the MTA's network. With their replacements, the R211Ss, entering service starting in October 2024, these venerable cars are now on very borrowed time. This video provides a look at these iconic cars, which are due to be retired as more R211S cars arrive. For now, they are still operating, though, so be sure to get your rides in while you can!
