Bolshoi Concert Большой концерт 1951 Vera Stroyeva - director
Pirogov Kozlovsky Ulanova Maksakova Mikhailov and more stars of the Bolshoi. Staged as a fictionalized documentary, this beautiful cultural relic features extended excerpts from Prince Igor with Pirogov, Mikhailov and Kozlovsky, conducted by Golovanov. Other first magnitude stars of the Bolshoi appear, including Mark Reizen, Ulanova, and Plisetskaya.
A group of workers travel to the Bolshoi to partake of the riches of Russian culture, beginning with excerpts from Prince Igor with Pirogov, Mikhailov, and featuring a marvelous frenzied dance sequence with Lepishinksaya (the greatest Polvetsian dances I've ever seen). 33:48 Following Prince Igor, the workers gather in a room for a speech, then Kozlovsky sings Lensky's aria 45:34. At 51:59 Bolshoi artists visit agricultural workers accompanied by folk choral singing. More folk singing and dancing, celebrating harvest time, including a song from Maria Maksakova. They all return to the Moscow Conservatory 1:04:51 for singing auditions that include a young girl from the farm and Alexander Ognivtsev. Then it's time for ballet 1:11:57 with young Plisetskaya and mature Semenova in Swan Lake; and excerpts from Romeo and Juliet with Ulanova (the famous lift is at 1:24:27). Mark Reizen follows in Ivan Susanin. The concert ends with a grand choral scene with soloists, including Pirogov, in front of iconic images of Stalin and Lenin.
Thanks to Natty Preme for identifying the following singers:
55:56 Vera Davidova mezzo
