Indian Railways on Saturday successfully tested the first loaded freight train trial run through USBRL tunnel no. 1 and Anji Khad cable bridge.
The Anji Khad bridge was constructed as a cable-stayed bridge. It connects the Katra and Reasi sections of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla-Rail-Link in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
The bridge's construction involved building a main span of 290 meters at a height of 196 meters, with a total main section length of 473.25 meters.
It is supported by 96 cables anchored to a single pylon on the Reasi side. The bridge was built by Hindustan Construction Company.
The USBRL project faced delays due to infrastructural snags. There were initial challenges with the design of the Anji Khad bridge, which was first proposed as an arch bridge before being redesigned as India's first cable-stayed railway bridge.
The project experienced issues with connecting disconnected stretches of track within Jammu and Kashmir, which did not initially link to the national network.
