These are the scenes from Khyndailad popularly known as Police Bazar in the heart of Shillong in Meghalaya. A large number of security officials including paramilitary forces can be seen doing the rounds of the popular marketplace from 10:30 pm onwards in order to maintain law and order situation in the area.
This is after several incidents of violence were reported from the capital city in the recent including the torching of three vehicles and a two-wheeler parked inside the compound of a police station and stones being pelted at East Shillong MLA and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh’s residence. The city also witnessed the imposition of a 10 pm shutdown notice which was later extended to 11:30 pm following a protest by a large section of people mostly including street vendors.
Similar patrols are also conducting patrols at Motphran, Paltan Bazar, Mawblei, Nongrim Hills, Laitumkhrah Bazar and several other areas in the capital to maintain law and order situations.
