Knowledge Forum Talk on “Findings from the 2015 Nepal Earthquake” by Dr Roger Bilham, Professor, Department of Geological Sciences, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA
21 May 2015, ICIMOD Headquarters
Dr Bilham holds a PhD in Geophysics from Cambridge University.
His research includes: Application of space geodesy and strain and tilt instrumentation to monitor deformation of the Earth at plate boundaries, mostly in southern Asia and western North America; Design and operation of new geophysical instruments to monitor strain and tilt in the Earth; Archival research into historical earthquakes; Statistics of urban earthquakes and global seismic hazards.
He is currently working on two books: a book on urban earthquakes, and a book on Mt. Everest. The Everest book is linked to his work in deriving a new height for the mountain and discusses the geology, geodesy and geophysics of the Himalaya.
