Research, education, and disruptive technologies in times of pandemic. A dialogue between academia and business – with surprising and clear insights.
Disruptive incidents often lead to trend-setting developments. How did COVID-19 affect research and education? Is there an acceleration effect for digitalization? Finally, what impact does the Coronavirus have on the industrialization of additive manufacturing as a digital production technology?
These questions were discussed on October 8, 2020, in Munich by Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, who as President of the Technical University of Munich focuses on digital-based production technologies such as additive manufacturing, Prof. Johannes Schleifenbaum, head of one of the world's best-known chairs for additive manufacturing at RWTH Aachen University, and Prof. Michael Süß, who as Chairman of Oerlikon AG has founded a dedicated business unit for additive manufacturing in his company.
