In this Video, I calibrate a recently purchased Moore & Wright engineers level.
It is relatively easy to do and the key is Patience & Repeatability.
Testing is simply finding a levelish firm (you don’t want ANY movement) surface. And checking the bubble position turning the level 180°s the bubble should remain in the same position. To make sure this is accurate I stick down a piece of paper and draw round the level, that way, every turn you can repeatedly re-locate it.
The adjustment on such an accrete tool is minute, turning the adjustment nuts a single degree is often ample. To start off with loosen and get it dialled in roughly, then continue doing so as you tighten down the two nuts. It takes a while.
This basic procedure can be carried out on any type of level that has adjustment to it’s bubble glass position.
