John Terry has revealed the incredible rise of Kevin De Bruyne has surprised him more than the similar ascents of Mohamed Salah and Romelu Lukaku following their failed spells at Chelsea.
All three players failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge but have since become stalwarts with other Premier League clubs. Lukaku moved to Manchester United for £75million last summer while Salah has flourished since joining Liverpool for £39m.
While Terry revealed all three players showed glimpses of their incredible talents at Chelsea, he admits that he never expected De Bruyne to reach the heights he has done with Manchester City.
He was a young boy, didn't really get his chance at Chelsea,' Terry said of the Belgian on Sky Sports.
'You couldn't judge him on four or five games playing here and there.
'What he's doing today in the Premier League, if he plays like that for four or five years, he's going to be with the greats.'
Having allowed three world-class players to slip from their grasp for relatively small transfer fees, the success of De Bruyne, Salah and Lukaku remains a constant source of embarrassment for Chelsea's decision makers.
