Extract from the band website:
Flairck, formed by Erik Visser in 1978, has tapped into this confluence of musical inspirations, bringing with it its own originality. Like its music the name of the band is an original composition, coming from the English work 'flair' and the Dutch 'vlerk' which means a nimble fingered hand or wing, reflecting the instrumental speed and clarity of the music. Flairck started as an instrumental group, playing acoustic instruments and composing the majority of its own material. In essence the music is a form of chamber music, classically influenced new 'traditional' music with touches of jazz and blues.
2008: Flairck engaged new members, including Mexican guitarist Pablo Ortiz, and Dutch wind player Jeroen Goossens (who had joined Flairck earlier from 1996 till 1999).
During this period another plan developed, initiated by gipsy violinist (and old friend) Tucsi Basily and Erik Visser. A plan for a unique cooperation: a 'symphonic-gipsy-orchestra', with gipsy musicians from the Basily family, acoustic instrumentalists from Flairck and guest musicians from all over the world. The first Dutch theatre tour of 'Global Orchestra' took place in the spring of 2010 and in 2011, release of a live DVD of 'Global Orchestra'. In the beginning of 2011 Ortiz and Visser, together with flautist Jeroen Goossens, Roumanian cembalist Marius Preda and Finnish violinist and vocalist Mirella Pirskanen, embarked on yet another Flairck tour 'The Battle', featuring new instrumental and vocal music and large projections of original paintings depicting the battle of 'male blue' and 'female red'. In the fall of 2011 Flairck will travelled to Tokyo for Japanese concerts and afterwards will joined the 'Global Orchestra' once again for a Dutch tour.
