▪️Pilling is when skin care products form tiny balls on the skin surface. They appear as peeling skin or form aggregations with a powdery texture.
▪️Pilling can occur in a variety of situations. When there is pilling, you need to understand you are doing something wrong. The products that you are apply will not be effective if there is pilling
Here are ways to avoid:
❌Don’t rub your products
✅DAB the products rather than rubbing especially if they contain hyaluronic acid.
❌Don’t use too much product
✅Applying too much quantity can also lead to pilling.
✔️Serum: 3-4 drops
✔️Moisturiser: dime sized amount
✔️Sunscreen : two finger length
❌Don’t use too many products
✅use minimum number of products as more the layering , more the chances of pilling . Don’t use more than two actives at a time. Remember that more the products, less effective they can get.
❌Use a thin moisturiser before sunscreen
✅Sunscreens tend to pill especially when they are gel based or contain hyaluronic acid. When sunscreen is applied on dry skin then pilling can become worse. Apply a thin layer of moisturiser before you use a sunscreen especially if gel based.
❌Do not over exfoliate
✅Over exfoliation leads to dryness. More dryness , more the pilling.
✔️dry skin : exfoliate once every 2 weeks
✔️oily skin: exfoliate once a week
❌Repair your skin barrier
✅damaged skin barrier increases the chances of pilling of skin care products. Repair skin barrier by using soothing serums and hydrating moisturisers. Ceramides and glycerine can help.
