Archbishop William Goh shares in this short homily extract how we can all approach the Synodal process. Do we examine ourselves? Have we been attentive to God's voice? Are we listening as Samuel did? Listening is indeed the first step.

Synodality is the “way” of being Church. Pope Francis says it is the “path… which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.” The Synod preparatory documents describe this way or path as one where the faithful journey together and reflect together on how the Church can live communion, achieve participation and open itself to the mission as the pilgrim and missionary People of God, especially in the complexity of the world situation today.
Catholics all over the world are invited to journey together in a way that allows the whole Church to listen to each other’s faith experiences, joys and challenges. This way is known as the Synod. It calls on us to pray and reflect, then shares and listen to what God’s Will might be for the Church going forward.
This process of listening is not a garnering of opinions, a survey or a problem-solving forum, but it is one of mutual listening with a view on how we can better hear God’s voice through the dialogues we have.
