hey what's up guys it's Levi and this how-to we're going to go over how to choose the right clear coat for your project first one we're going to go over is a polyurethane which comes in both the water and an oil base the water base is going to be a lot easier to work with and much easier cleanup oil base is going to be much more durable just keep in mind that it will probably leave a yellowish Hue to your project polyurethane basically forms a film over the top of the project and does not soak into the wood next is going to be a shellac which is good for things like Furniture if you want to bring out the grain of the wood and you want a really warm golden tone it does not hold up well to heat and chemicals last we're going to go over a lacquer this is going to be our preferred finish for most projects lacquer forms a nice hard finish on your project because it soaks into the wood and does not sit on top of the wood it also dries quickly so that you can do multiple coats and do the proper prep in between coats so that you can get a really nice finish
