#RanilOnFirstpost: In an exclusive interview to Firstpost Managing Editor Palki Sharma, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he is not positive about Namal Rajapaksa's chances in the 2024 presidential elections. " He should have thought twice before contesting", Wickremesinghe said. Talking about the political history of the Rajapaksas, Wickremesinghe said that the Rajapaksas are gone now and their whole propaganda has fallen. "I am coming (back in power) because I have performed and I think there is a little bit more for me to do", he added.
Sri Lanka is preparing for its first presidential election since the economic meltdown, with 39 candidates set to compete on 21 September. Among the key contenders is incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, running as an independent candidate, alongside other notable names such as Sajith Premadasa and Namal Rajapaksa. India is closely monitoring the situation, as the outcome could influence regional stability and India's strategic interests, particularly concerning China's growing influence.
