The GE P30CH, affectionately known as the "Pooch", was the first all new locomotive for Amtrak. It was also the first diesel offering from GE to Amtrak whom was still struggling to find a reliable mainline diesel. From their dog-like performance, distinct GE chugging noise to their screeching P5A and K5LA airhorns, the P30s sure lived up to their nickname. While they may have looked nice (when they weren't charred from engine smoke), how successful was the locomotive and how did things end for it?
This episode is a bit of a short one due to the fact there isn't much in the way of story or information about everything relating to the engines. The next episode, the GP40TC, will also likely be a bit shorter but after that one, I should be back to making longer ones. All the same though, I hope you still enjoy(ed) this episode and thanks for watching!
