Despite receiving a host of engine, chassis, suspension, brake, and styling revisions for 2014, clocking an impressive 10.38 seconds at 127.5 mph in the quarter-mile, and running a 147-mph top speed at our test site, the Z1000 was cut from our Super Standards comparison. An injustice considering it costs thousands less and offers competitive performance?
The 2017 Kawasaki Z1000 will be offered in two variants - standard and Z1000R. The 2017 Kawasaki Z1000 has been priced at Rs 14.49 lakh while the Kawasaki Z1000R retails for Rs 15.49 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). In terms of styling, the new litre-class naked motorcycle is similar to its predecessor while the Z1000R gets special paint scheme with subtle accents to distinguish both the motorcycles. The instrument cluster in the new motorcycle features gear position indicator and shift light.
To make the new engine more cleaners, ECU settings of the engine has been changed and Kawasaki engineers have also added pre-catalysers. Despite the reduction in emissions, power figures remain unchanged. The 1,043cc displacement in-line four motor produces 142PS at 10,000rpm and 111Nm of peak torque arrives at 7,300rpm. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and it also features slipper clutch.
The Kawasaki Z1000R features top-spec Brembo M50 monobloc calipers that bite on 310mm diameter Brembo floating front discs as seen on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. The Kawasaki Z1000R gets better suspension than the standard bike as it sports Ohlins S46DR1S, fully-adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. Damping duties at the front are handled by 41mm dia USD forks but the settings have been changed to match the performance of the Ohlins unit. The Kawasaki Z1000R and the Kawasaki Z1000 rivals the likes of BMW S 1000R, Suzuki GSX-S1000R and the Triumph Speed Triple.
