The Dixie Fire jumped HWY 89 in two places. One by Greenville, Ca and the second along the West shores of Lake Almanor where huge flames towered over the popular resort lake and large residential area. Crews lost contain as hundreds of fire fighters from all over the country joined forces to try and put out large spot fires saving many homes. What it looked like driving down Hwy 89 with all the crews in place, burned trees, smoke and flames on both sides of the roads.
Opening shot is from Mill Creek a few miles SW of Chester where the fire is once again testing crews tonight as a massive pyrocumulus cloud looms over the top of a resort house. The next two days will be hot, dry and breezy with the fire well passed containment lines it will continue to climb the list of biggest California wildfires in history. Many more evacuations took place today and many of the towns right on the edge of the Dixie Fire will be tested the next two days.
