Leo M. Cooney, Jr., MD
Dr. Leo Cooney is the Humana Foundation Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Cooney established the program in Geriatrics at Yale in 1976. Dr. Cooney’s research and teaching activities have been focused on assisting elderly individuals attain the highest level of independence possible. He is committed to insuring that resident physicians and students at Yale are as prepared as possible to care for elderly patients.
Brienne Miner, MD, MHS
Dr. Miner is a geriatrician and sleep medicine physician and researcher interested in improving the management of sleep-wake symptoms in older adults. Her current interests include investigation of insomnia symptoms and daytime sleepiness in older adults, as these are prevalent and likely to have adverse effects on important health-related outcomes. Ultimately, she aims to design interventions for symptoms of insomnia and daytime sleepiness in older persons with and without cognitive impairment, which may lead to improvements in cognitive and physical function.
James Lai, MD
Dr. Lai is the Associate Chief of Clinical Affairs for Geriatrics at the Yale School of Medicine and oversees a vibrant clinical program that includes three skilled nursing facilities, four primary care sites, a home-based primary care program, an inpatient consultation service, and the keystone Adler Geriatric Assessment Clinic. Dr. Lai brings a broad clinical experience to Yale, having practiced primary care in the community for eight years followed by four years exclusively as an inpatient hospitalist and floor medical director at Yale New Haven Hospital. Currently, he is focused on developing the geriatrics program at Yale to meet the clinical, educational, and research needs of the institution and growing population.
