(8 Apr 2018) Voting in Hungary's parliamentary election has officially ended, but some polls remain open to accommodate the long lines of people hoping to cast their ballots.
Hungarian election officials said voter turnout 90 minutes before polls closed had already exceeded the total turnout for the 2014 elections.
National Election Office figures indicated that 63.2 percent of eligible voters had cast ballots by 5 p.m. (1500 GMT) on Sunday.
The overall Election Day turnout in 2014 was 61.7 percent.
Analysts said the strong participation could point either to a sweeping win for Prime Minister Viktor Orban's Fidesz party or a strong showing by splintered opposition groups.
Preliminary results are expected after 11 p.m. (2100 GMT).
