This online course is part of the ConCaD initiative and covers all aspects of citywide inclusive sanitation (CWIS). It is aimed at the private sector and sanitation professionals. The ConCaD initiative aims to develop skills in planning, designing and implementing inclusive urban sanitation services. It also offers a face-to-face training workshop to complement this course, in partnership with training institutes in Africa and Asia. The objective is to increase the skills of consultants and improve the delivery and sustainability of inclusive sanitation services in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
The overall learning objectives of this course are:
- Explain to decision-makers and other stakeholders how urban sanitation (or the lack of it) affects the environment and human well-being.
- Select and apply appropriate diagnostic, planning and decision support tools to designing viable and effective inclusive urban sanitation services.
- Formulate an evolving mix of sanitation technologies and service delivery models tailored to the changing physical conditions and institutional environment in a given city or town.
- Define the main elements of appropriate institutional and regulatory frameworks needed to support sanitation service delivery.
- Provide evidence-based inputs to support the facilitation of a planning and implementation process with stakeholder participation through the entire project cycle.
