One Norfolk Southern Locomotive Pulling 1.5 Mile Long Train By Itself On CSX Tracks! CSX Coal Train In The Rain. Norfolk Southerns' Newest Heritage Unit Leading A Long Train With 2 Other Locomotives. This Is The First Heritage Unit In 12 Years! 6 CSX And Norfolk Southern Trains In Glendale & Sharonville, Ohio.
A group of us railfans met up in Glendale, Ohio to catch the newest Norfolk Southern Heritage Unit. This is the first new Heritage Unit in 12 years. Back in 2012 NS came out with 20 Heritage Units as part of its 30th anniversary celebration. This unit is honoring the Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Railway. The locomotive was painted at Altoona, Pa.’s Juniata Shops and unveiled to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the neighboring Railroaders Memorial Museum. There is only one other TAG locomotive surviving and it is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I recently posted a video of it pulling an excursion train and turning on a wye in Chattanooga. See that video. The lone diesel survivor is high-hood GP38 80 – also the final diesel purchased by the Tag – and operates at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. Named “The John A. Chambliss” in honor of the railroad’s vice president, it became number 2879 under Southern and later Norfolk Southern. In 2017, it was restored to its original number and paint scheme.
This video also features a single Norfolk Southern General Electric AC44C6M pulling a train that is over one and a half miles long. It's an intermodal train but that is still pretty impressive. You can hear the defect detector going off on CSX 160.230 as the NS train passes me. I just thought that was interesting. Please leave your comment as well.
We also see a long coal train with over 100 loaded hopper cars. It was raining when that one passed me and I had a difficult time keeping the water off of the camera lens.
Things were slow on the CSX line today so a group of us went a couple miles over to the Norfolk Southern New Castle District when we were notified of a CSX auto racks heading to Queensgate Yard. It had been over two hours since a train passed on the CSX line but we got the auto racks train in Sharonville. After that we headed back to Glendale and got a couple more trains.
What do you think about the newest Heritage Unit and which train is your favourite? I appreciate all comments and they do help my channel so thanks for commenting.
