Presenting some audio samples of the Kemper Transpose function in comparison to the Digitech Drop. For live performances it saves the hassle of carrying multiple guitars. Note that either of these two will not get you to drop tunings (e.g. Drop D and its variants). But would work for songs which require the entire guitar to be tuned down.
My comparison here is only dirty sounds and I limited the tunings to 4 steps down. My signal chain is
- Epiphone SG (stock with pro bucker pickups)
- Kemper profile used - Guido's Bogner X-tasy free profile that comes with the unit. I'm also using a tube screamer and a basic pre eq to dial out some of the muddiness in the pickups.
- Cabinet: I'm using a 3sigma audio Marshall cabinet impulse
- Straight into Logic with no post processing.
