...Source: [ Ссылка ] Transcript: According to China EV Post, Nio and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) have formed a strategic partnership to advance electric vehicle battery technologies and talent development. The agreement was signed at Nio's global headquarters in Shanghai, with Nio CEO William Li and PolyU President Teng Jin-Guang in attendance.
The collaboration will focus on developing next-generation batteries, including ultra-lightweight and flexible conductive films for lithium-ion and solid-state batteries. A PolyU-led project on these technologies received funding from the Hong Kong SAR government in May. However, details on how these advancements will impact Nio's future products remain unclear.
Nio has been ramping up its battery research efforts, with over 800 team members and an annual R&D budget exceeding $140 million. The company previously announced plans to build a battery plant with a 40 GWh annual capacity but later shifted to outsourcing production to reduce costs. Current suppliers include CATL, CALB, and BYD, with a 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery already in use.
Nio is also collaborating with UK-based Monolith on AI-driven real-time battery testing.
