After getting the Green house built, as our Storage building, so we were not paying storage all winter, the next item was a place to live. This was it. Was not much, but built with lumber we made ourselves from our logs and milled with my bandsaw mill. It was definitely cozy, but we stayed warm and dry for nearly one year, before we started construction on our log home. We lived pretty simple but when you are in love with the right companion, anything is possible and Fun!
We started the clearing for the homesite on June 13th poured concrete on the 16th of June, Had the first floor done on Canada Day. Ingrid and I with the help on the concrete pour by our Son in Law Cole, our daughter Kathrin and dear friend Les. We worked from dawn until dusk for 4 1/2 months, knowing the first snows of Winter could be on us at any moment once we hit October. we did all the work ourselves, including all plumbing, Septic field, new Well and 200 ft. of ditch line, installed and set up our complete Solar System and full Power supply, all household electric wiring, including three separate Generators, Two Gas and one diesel, which we processed waste Motor oil and Vegetable oil for fuel. Dealt with Wolves, Grizzly Bears, Coyotes and everything wild. Our Wolf Cross named Ghost kept them at bay and killed one coyote that got too close. The challenges are real, but if you have the heart, determination and are willing to work hard, it is achievable. Yes we have had many challenges, but almost as many victories. Since we started this epic journey, we have lost another son tragically, another brother and my Father since we got here. They have been memorialized on our property with their ashes spread over our land and lake. I have stared down Boar grizzlies twice on our place, and often have to pack my 357 mag as protection when I am feeding or fencing for our slowly growing livestock herd of our daughter and Cole's. We have spectacular fishing with bounteous Fat Rainbow trout and large Lake trout to 30 + lbs. 13+kg. We truly live in the Wilderness, our nearest neighbor is 20km. away and our driveway alone is 10km. A herculean job to keep clear, plus an additional 6 km. of forestry rd. not maintained. Ingrid and I welcome you to share this journey with us. If you are curious who I am, I have published 2 books of Memoirs. " One Inch From Disaster, True Tales From The Wilds of British Columbia". and my most current book, "From Beginning To End- True Tales of An Enigma" in Book stores and on Amazon. All the best in life pursuits you may have. Once again Thank you for being part of this with us. :)
