(8 Dec 2017) Iranians took to the streets on Friday to condemn U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
In Tehran, the leader of Friday prayers Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, said Trump's move has invalidated decades of peace talks between Israel and Palestinians and urged Palestinians to start another intifada, or uprising, against Israel.
Khatami also vowed that his country would continue to improve its missile capabilities to defend itself against Israel.
The prayer ceremony was followed by demonstrations of worshippers who voiced their anger over Trump's decision.
Protesters shouted "death to Israel" and "death to America" and set fire to Israel's flag.
Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital and to advance plans to move the U.S. Embassy to the contested city has sparked outrage across the region.
