Hi there, Audi owners. Today, on your 2017 Audi A4, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install EcoHitch's two-inch hitch receiver. The cross tube's gonna be hidden completely behind the bumper, and you're only gonna see the receiver tube sticking out the back. To make it even further hidden, the receiver tube on this is removable. There is a single bolt that holds it in. You simply remove the bolt using a 24-millimeter or 15/16 socket or wrench.
Pull it out and the tube will drop down. To put it back in, you simply slide it back up, reinsert the bolt, tighten and torque it to the specifications in your instructions. It's a Class III, two-inch by two-inch receiver, so it's gonna be great for all of your towing needs. Whether you're putting a bike rack on the back to hit the trails, or just pulling some jet skis with you down to the lake. It uses a 5/8-inch hitch pin and clip.
Now, one doesn't come included with the hitch, but you can pick one up here at etrailer.com. And it features vertical safety chain loops. They do have kind of a smaller opening, so they'll work best with smaller safety chains. But it is large enough to accommodate some of the medium to larger sized chains as well. And I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories.
From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube, it measures about 11 1/2 inches. This is important when determining if you need a drop, a rise, or a raise shank on any of your accessories. And since it is so low, I would recommend a raised shank on any of your accessories. From the center of the hitch pin, to the edge of the rear bumper, it measures about three inches. This is important when determining if any of your folding accessories can be placed in the upright storage position without contacting the bumper.
We'll begin our installation at the back of the vehicle, just behind the rear tire. We're gonna remove the Torx screws located on our fender liner here. You're gonna have three of them that we're gonna take out. We're gonna use a T25 Torx socket. Once you've removed those screws, you'll peel back your fender liner and you'll find another Torx screw that we'll need to remove, located up here, going into your rear quarter panel. We'll repeat the same process on the other side. We're now underneath the vehicle. Towards the center, just off to each side of the center, you're gonna find some plastic nuts. We're gonna remove those with a 10-millimeter socket. You can see another set here. We don't need to remove those, just the ones towards the furthest rear that attached to our fascia. We'll now remove the trim surrounding our spare tire. We're gonna use a trim panel tool. You can also use a flat-bladed screwdriver. You'll remove the pins holding it in place by popping out the center, and then pulling out the whole pin. We'll have one pin on each side and we'll have two on the rear most portion of the trim. We can now remove our trim piece. Just kinda walk it around, peeling it off as you go. When you get down on your passenger's side here, you'll have an air pump that you're gonna need to remove the strap for. We'll just get that loose, and then we can work our paneling down and take this off as well. We'll now set that aside. We'll then remove our side panels. There's a small dial that you can rotate. And that will release it and lets you pull your panels off. We're gonna do that on the other side as well. On your passenger's side, you will have a connector that you'll need to disconnect, so you just press in on the release tab and pull outward to remove it. And then on each side, we're gonna remove the plastic covering for your taillight assembly. It just pulls off. You can just grab it behind it and pull it out. And now, we can access all of the bolts we need to for our taillight assembly. There will be two here that we're gonna remove. We'll use the same T25 Torx bit to remove these bolts. With our assembly loose, you'll wanna pull rearward to release it. If you're having a difficult time getting it to release, you can use a trim panel tool and help use this to pry it towards the rear of the vehicle. Once you've got it popped out, we'll disconnect our electrical connector. There's a red tab that you'll need to pull out first, and then you can press in on the release tab to disconnect it. We're gonna do the same thing on the other side. Behind each
