Welcome back to another whisky review, this time I'm looking at the titan of Canadian macro whiskies, Crown Royal.
Type: Blended Candian Whisky
Mashbill: Not Disclosed
Age: Not Disclosed
ABV: 40%
Nose: A phenolic resin note is the first to hit, followed by floral perfume and mild alcohol
Palate: Immediate floral perfume characteristic, followed by the tiniest note of rye and oak.
Finish: Light warmth, no longevity at all, tastes a bit like when you accidentally get cologne or perfume in your mouth.
Price Point: $22.00 per 750ml at local store.
Mark: 68/100
Finishing thoughts: As you probably expected, this is NOT a sipping whisky, it lacks the detailed flavors and profile of a proper whisky and comes up lackluster on the nose and tasting experience, when you buy this whisky, know that it's suited for cocktails or serving to friends who don't drink whisky. To me, Crown De Luxe is the Jack Daniels or Jim Beam of the Candian Whisky scene, it's big and well known but falls short compared to other similarly priced and even cheaper whiskies. If you're looking to branch into Canadian whisky, I'd recommend Seagrams VO if you're on an extreme budget, or Crown Royal Reserve if you have just a bit more, over this whisky any day.
