Kora is a 21 string instrument used extensively in West Africa. Kora families have traditionally come from Jali families, from the Mandinka tribes, who are traditional historians, genealogists, and storytellers who pass their skills on to their descendants. The instrument was first discovered in the Gambia and it is played in Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Senegal & Burkina Faso.
