An inquest has been held into the death of a man who lay alive after a fall for up to five days before he was found.
The Coroner's court heard 85 year old Brian Gilbert had been cleaning his shower at his home in Ocean Heights in October 2022 when he fell and was unable to get up.
First responders told GBC the former hotel porter lay on the floor of his home for up to five days before the Concierge in his building noticed they hadn't seen him and called the emergency services.
Paramedics found him concious and talking. He was taken to hospital where he is said to have initially responded well to treatment but sadly died just over a week later.
The court heard he had suffered a heart attack following the fall.
The cause of Mr Gilbert's death was found to be multiple reasons including congestive cardiac failure, myocardial infarction, aspiration pneumonia, fall with long lie, Fournier's gangrene and acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Coroner Charles Pitto described the circumstances of his passing as 'sad'.
