It was supposed to be a display of the American determination to win the war in Vietnam. Instead, it became one of the conflict's most disputed military operations. More than two grueling months of the siege of Khe Sanh Combat Base would change the way Americans back home see the war and hastened the end of the war.
For the Marines, though, Khe San was a monument to their resilience in a battle against all odds; a battle that should never have been fought in the first place.
