The European Union is taking legal action against the United Kingdom over the government's plans to breach parts of the Brexit deal.
Brussels claims Prime Minister Boris Johnson is breaching the "good faith" promise both sides signed up to in the withdrawal agreement passed by parliament last year.
“Breaking International law has consequences,” French MEP Nathalie Loiseau warned.
“If the UK Government thought that breaching the withdrawal agreement, which the European Parliament agreed in good faith, would provide leverage in our talks, then it was misguided.
“A remedy is needed before any future relationship can be agreed.”
The EU parliament has said it would not pass legislation for a trade deal if there was a threat to the withdrawal agreement – something it considers the UK’s Internal Market Bill to be.
The Internal Market Bill, which gives the government the power to change parts of the EU withdrawal agreement, will empower ministers to determine rules for goods and services to flow across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland after January.
