This "Once in a Lifetime" tasting was another incredible event with 12 lucky tasters enjoying near perfect examples of these wines even though the wines were not all 100 Point wines, the (87 point) wines were very good and I would say the surprise of the night was the 1971, so light in color but still had a crimson note to the huge. It opened up like the rest of the wines and still had a note of sweetness to it at the end of the night and that elegance and silky texture that defines Chateau Lafite.
This wine is from Pauillac but it is at the northern end of the appellation so the wine has some of the qualities of St. Estephe to it as well and is not as big as the other first growths of Pauillac, Chateau Latour and Chateau Mouton. Chateau Lafite is about elegance and this wine never disappoints event in off vintages which is the sign of a truly outstanding wine.
