The Doctor takes Bill to the Dalek-Movellan War to put the Pilot creature chasing them through the deadliest fire in the universe - a Dalek extermination.

The Movellans had previously fought against the Daleks in the 1979 story Destiny of the Daleks, starring Tom Baker and Lalla Ward. In that story, they were depicted as emotionless androids. The fact that they appear panicked and disorganised in this episode implies that their war against the Daleks is not going well.
