IDL Traits
Getoff (GET) | First Step Explosiveness Off The Ball
Power Rush (PWR) | Ability To Win As A Pass Rusher Using Power
Finesse Rush (FIN) | Ability To Win As A Pass Rusher Using Rush Moves
Run Defense (RUN) | The Combination Of Gap Discipline, Play Recognition, Tackling, & Block Shedding
IDL Scheme Fits
3 Tech | A well Balanced Defensive Tackle with a combination of getoff, strength, run defense, and pass rush ability who may lack the play strength to consistently hold their own against double teams.
Nose Tackle | Traditional plodding nose tackle good for eating blocks in run defense and swallowing backs who enter their lane.
2-Down* | Excels in run defense while also not a traditional nose tackle due to size and/or strength. Likely best utilized as a 2 technique to a 4i. Likely to struggle generating pass rush due to a lack of any combination of getoff, power, athleticism, or technique.
Pass Rusher* | Typically an explosive player who lacks discipline vs the run, best used on passing downs to help create pressure. May also be a player with poor getoff and plus quickness to be utilized as a tactful finesse interior rusher.
Hybrid DE* | Tweener type best utilized as a Defensive End in a traditional 3-4 scheme. Smaller and quicker than traditional IDL to the point that the player may be best used as an early down EDGE player in 4-3 schemes. May have any combination of length, quality ability to defend the run, power rushing skills, and finesse rushing skills.
*Not included in a player's designation as "Any" Scheme fit.
