This is a short video showing a section of the Baw Baw plateau and the subalpine habitat of the critically endangered Baw Baw Frog (Philoria frosti). The male frogs create burrows along the edges of water seepages and call for females during the breeding season. Unfortunately the species is likely to go extinct in the wild due to a combination of habitat loss and the spread of chytrid fungus. Zoos Victoria is currently working at establishing a captive population to insure species survival and eventual reintroduction.
